Heart of Frugality part 2

Picking up where I left off last time: A second issue relates to the necessity of frugality. Many people who emphasize frugality could doubtless get along just fine without being frugal. For such people the amount of time it takes to scour the racks of thrift stores, to clip coupons, to read the frugal blogs and to search for deals online could be better spent in other more significant pursuits. The fact is that frugality is a significant investment in time and effort. Many of the most frugal people make a hobby (or more!) out of it. Here’s the thing. A man who brings in millions of dollars a year probably doesn’t need to have his wife work at the local donut store to bring in $300 a month; her time is doubtless better spent in some other pursuit. The same is true for those who don’t absolutely need to be frugal. If God has given great blessing, the time it takes to be very frugal can be spent doing something else. Instead of spending days hunting for the perfect and perfectly cheap

Frugality and The Heart

I found the article on Challies that I was looking for on the possible down side of frugality. Doesn't everything have one? I thought I would take it piece by piece and speak to what I have found to be true in my own heart and life. What Is Frugality? The Bible is clear that money issues are very closely connected to heart issues. Money has the ability to expose all kinds of idols of the heart. This is true whether a person is a miser or a spendthrift. Money can be an idol in want and in plenty; frugality can be done wrong and done right. When we discuss frugality, we must realize that we are talking about the heart more than the home. This is so very true. I have had times of plenty and times of little and idols were exposed during each season. I love "stuff". But more on that later. The actual definition of frugality can differ from person-to-person. Some see it as meaning little more than economical so that a frugal person is a person who buys things at lower pr

Frugal Mama

For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:36 How can being frugal bring glory to God? Let me share just a few ways. Being frugal is being a good steward of the financial means which God has provided you. Being frugal can help you have more to share with others who are in need. It can help you to have a plethora of food in your home enabling you to open your doors in hospitality to others, bringing about great fellowship. It allows you to help your husband in making it financially possible for you to remain at home and out of the workforce so that you can raise and educate your children. My frugality was originally born out of necessity. However, it didn't take me long to see how it could be used for God's glory. For me, it enables me to do all the things I mentioned above, but most of all it enables me to be able to homeschool my son which I feel is vitally important to his spiritual upbringing. I would like to c

Autism Camp

A friend from MS is raising money for Camp for Autistic Children. Here is the discussion from the facebook page: Together Enhancing Autism Awareness in Mississippi (TEAAM) is an organization that helps children with Autism by providing an all inclusive summer camp. In previous years, the cost to parents was offset by a grant received from the state of Missisisppi. This year, however the grant was not received. The cost to the parents this year will be five times more than in previous years. We'd like to help send these kids to camp in 2011.   We have committed to a $500donation but would like to send more. So, every donation received over the next four weeks (through April 10, 2011), will be added to our initial commitment of a $500 donation to TEAAM to offset the cost of Kamp Kaleidoscope.   You can help by asking all of your Facebook friends to log on to our website to make their donation. Even a $1 donation from each of your friends, and then a $1 from each of their friends

Table Talk

There is an article in this months issue of Table Talk that caught my eye. It is by Elyse Fitzpatrick the author of Idols of the Heart (available in the church library for my fellow CFBC members). It is addressing the propensity of young girls to idolize relationships with young men. Here is a quote: "Our young women need to be dazzled by the beauty of their Redeemer King. They need to hear His story, His beauty, His love, His excellencies over and over again so that the images they are tempted to worship will pale in comparison". She goes on to talk about the need of parents that are willing to confess their sin openly to set a comfortable environment for their daughters to feel free to share their own struggles and temptations. She talks about us soaking our daughters hearts in the gospel truth of the great One who gave His life for her that she might be free to worship Him and rest in His welcoming love........Many amens came from my heart while reading this small but powe

What I am Learning from Parenting

It may be just me but the longer I strive to teach my kids to walk in the way of the Lord the more I see how often I fail to do that myself.  The lesson my kids learn most from me would have to be “this is what we are supposed to do but this what sin leads us to do instead”.   Raising children continually shows me my need for a Savior. I am pointed back to the Cross several times a day. Not only in pointing them to the Cross for forgiveness and grace but to find forgiveness and grace for myself. In teaching them what it looks like to be a follower of Christ I see where I am lacking. The Lord uses EVERY conversation that we have about their sin as an opportunity to show me mine.  I show them scripture and teach them the truth of the Word of God knowing that only He can produce the miracle of salvation and sanctification. Sometimes I think He only told me to teach them so He could teach me through them. If their hope is in my ability to teach and model well then they are doomed. If I a
